Most of the Zine Apothecary collection has been moved to other collections–a big part of it going to the Mpls Community and Technical College library. If you’re looking for a library to donate your zine, send it there! You can find the rest of it at the Fly Away Zine Mobile, possibly coming to your state soon!

IPRC Zine Machine call for zines

The Independent Publishing Resource Center in Portland, OR, needs some great mini zines to stock their zine machine! They’re doing an open call for submissions to the Zine Machine. The machine has eleven slots for eleven different zines at any given time and they plan to rotate the selection. If your submitted zine makes it in, the IPRC will print 50 copies of your zine and box, 25 to be stocked into the machine and 25 for you to give to your friends, sell at Portland Zine Symposium, or whatever!

There are also four spaces to feature four boxes, so part of submitting your mini zine can also be making an eye-catching design for the outside of the box. There is no deadline for your mini zine submissions, as the Zine Machine will be an ongoing project with a rotating stock. Click for their blog for the template and more info.

Milwaukee Zine Fest next weekend!

Oh, I’m so sad the Zine Apothecary won’t be at the Milwaukee Zine Fest next weekend, due to an awesome new job. /:(

But YOU should go. Oh yes. It’s a weekend-long affair.

The QZAP folks are some of the planners on this, and after attending this summer’s Milwaukee Zine Librarian’s (un)Conference, it’s SURE to be good and amazing.

Ad Infinitum: A Reading by Allen Killian-Moore

This is meta. Allen Killian-Moore is reading his short story “Ad Finitum” that was published in Boneshaker: Bicycling Almanac AT Boneshaker Books in Minneapolis on Monday, November 14 at 7pm. You can buy the issue there, and since this reading is a Lit-Punch Event. Receive two punches when you purchase the featured book during the event.

The story is a true-life tragedy involving bicycles and mental dynamite. Allen is a Minnesota based artist, writer, environmentalist, film-maker, curator and aspiring urban farmer.

Yeti Records call for Twin Cities zines

On Nov 5th, Girl A Whirl (a radical day of awesome lady bands) Yeti Records hope to unveil a new Zine section. They currently carry a couple, but would really like to branch out and carry more.

Fly Away Zine Mobile at MCTC Tuesday 9/20!

Hey, what are you doing on Tuesday? I hope you’re going to the Minneapolis Community and Technical College to check out their zine collection and the Fly Away Zine Mobile!

On Tuesday, September 20 from 3-6pm, the Fly Away Zine Mobile will be parked immediately outside the main library entrance on the MCTC Plaza at 1501 Hennepin Ave. There will be a mini zine making workshop too!

The Fly Away Zine Mobile will be toodling around the Twin Cities until it leaves for warmer weather on Sunday, September 25th. Check out their schedule here.

Twin Cities Anarchist Book Fair this weekend!

We are so excited for this weekend, because the Twin Cities Anarchist Bookfair is happening! The Zine Apothecary is inches away from Powderhorn Park, so we’ll have open hours Saturday and Sunday 12-3. Also, the Fly Away Zine Mobile will be parked there from 10:30-2pm.

Anarchists and radicals from all over the Midwest will converge with books, zines, music, crafts, food, skills and much more! The bookfair will be a place for everyone from the anarcho-curious to committed revolutionaries to meet, share ideas, and continue the fight for a world free of all oppression. General Admission will be FREE and all ages.

The Bookfair will include:

- Tables for publishers, distros, bookstores, infoshops, and organizations

- Workshops and skillshares on everything from Buddhist Anarchism to bike maintenance

- Author talks by Terry Bisson, Andrej Grubacic, Waziyatawin, Anthony Nocella, and others

- FREE lunch Saturday and Sunday

- Really Really Free Market!

- Music in the park!

-First Aid/Street Medic workshop from 4:30-6 on Saturday 17th in the Small Crafts room

The U of M welcomes new students each year with a slick orientation program. But it doesn’t always match reality. Sometimes, we need a disorientation!

The 2011-2012 U of M DisOrientation Guide is a 52-page zine meant for guerrilla distribution, linking campus with community and featuring useful information for all students: free stuff guide, a pullout map, info on biking and veg-friendly food, people’s history, social justice struggles, and more. Get yours (and other rad zines, too) at this launch event and workshop! Featuring:

Discussion with editors and authors of the Guide, joined by an editor of the UW-Madison Disorientation Manual
Do-it-yourself zine workshop – start making a zine of your own!

Moveable Type truck coming to Zine Apothecary!

First, head to MCBA (1011 Washington Ave S) from 5pm-7pm for a visit with Kyle Durrie and her type truck–a truck turned mobile letterpress studio. At 6pm, the slideshow will commence. Pull a print in a mobile print shop and hear about the life of the itinerant letterpress printer.

At 8pm, the Type Truck and the Fly Away Zine Mobile will pull into the Zine Apothecary (3310 15th Ave S) for an afterparty potluck with zines and zinemakers. Bring the bounty from your garden or a treat to share, and we’ll take over the alley with underground press and zine-y fun times. Potluck + letterpress studio + 2 zine libraries= an amazing Monday night.
